Rockwell Beer Co a shipping container brewery and restaurant in St. Louis. Have you ever enjoyed a refreshing craft brew pint in a steel shipping container? That is part of the atmosphere at St. Louis’ Rockwell Beer Co. The Rockwell Beer Co. built its brewing facility and tap room out of repurposed cargo containers for a unique and modern feeling brewpub. Brewer Andy Hille, secured a Community Development Block Grant Loan through the St. Louis Local Development Company to finance the new Conex container brewing facility (and created 18 local jobs in the process) in the Grove neighborhood at 1320 S Vandeventer Ave. Rockwell Beer Co. lives on a once vacant lot that was formerly the site of a machine shop on Vandeventer Avenue. The brewery operates at a 15-barrel capacity, plus three Missouri oak foeders for future special aging brews. The brewing facility itself, the warehouse and bottling area, the tasting area and retail store are all housed inside converted Conex containers. They boast a 90-seat tap room with a ceiling designed from oak wood leftover from the foeders and serve a food menu prepared by local chef Gerard Craft out of the steel container kitchen.

Shipping container home developments, Shipping container apartments and tiny homes in St. Louis

St. Louis’ First Shipping Container Home. Inspired by a shipping container home they saw in nearby St. Charles, a St. Louis couple are the proud owners (and designers) of a custome designed house made from nine steel shipping containers. Owners Travis And Gina Sheridan purchased a three-parcel lot in the Old North neighborhood, through St. Louis’ Land Reutilization Authority program. The Sheridans had previously already lived across the street in an old 1899-built row house and wanted to stay in the neighborhhod.

The Sheridans explain that the home design arose out of practicality. “After meeting with a few architects and seeing what we could afford and wanted to spend in the neighborhood, what we would end up with is something we didn’t like at all like a suburbia house plopped in the middle of the city,” Gina says. “Or, if we wanted something really unique that we could play with like Legos, it was a container house.” The couple consulted on the design with Zack Smithey, who had already constructed his own Conex box house in St. Charles. The 2,880 square foot home has 9 ½ foot tall ceilings and features 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a 25’x13′ deck built on the second story , a covered driveway, and a small art gallery space. The couple are art enthusiasts and created a gallery On the third floor. Owner Travis installed a sliding and movable gallery panels that suspend from beams and allow them to hang and show large format artwork.
