Built out of a 40-foot shipping container – which works out to a cozy 320 sq feet interior space – the Conex box was outfitted with the following amenities:2 Bedrooms & 1 Bath, Central air conditioning and heat, tank-less hot water heater, Stand up shower, Stainless steel kitchen appliances: refrigerator, gas stove and hood exhaust, Queen Master, bunk room with fold out bed to save space, Cedar wood interior with Spray Foam Insulation, energy efficient LED lighting, Satellite TV hookup, attached covered deck to extend the living space. The seller listed at $37,500. Could you see yourself living a minimalist lifestyle in a repurposed sea container tiny home?

Laredo Housing Authority announces first tiny home development. The Laredo Facilities Corporation – part of the Laredo Housing Authority – is developing three tiny homes out of repurposed shipping containers called Bernal Sunrise Court. The mandate of the housing project is a trial to provide three different families who need affordable housing while “upcycling” the used cargo boxes. The living spaces are only about 600 square feet in size but are still equipped like a normal home, with a kitchen, laundry area, 1 bedroom and bathroom. Alma Mata with the housing authority says, it’s important that the housing authority along with the city have been able to achieve and create more affordable housing for the community. The rent at Bernal Sunrise Court is projected to run in the neighborhood of 75 cents per square foot – an affordable level for community housing. Affordable housing options are also planned for communities in Laredo, Zapata, and Asheton.

In fact, at points in 2019 and 2020, Port Laredo surpassed the Port of Los Angeles as the country’s number one trade hub. Trade experts predict that Port Laredo could be the top US trade port for the foreseeable future due to economic factors such as the proximity to Mexico, the U.S.-China trade war and the trade effects of the pandemic.
